It's the First of November - the day after the night before. I trust that not too many of you are suffering from dicky tummies having overdone it with the hoards of candy and treats obtained by the threat of a trick. But it wasn't all about last night. In fact, today is what you might call the main event.
Over the past few days, I've seen various segments on the news about what Halloween is really all about and where it comes from. Most of the time, the reporters and those being interviewed seemed at pains to stress how pagan Celts of yore thought that last night marked the end of the year and so they would celebrate accordingly. Others would wax on about the veil between the living and the dead being at its thinnest. Why that would inspire today's antics, I haven't the foggiest.
